Level 3 Award – Installation of EV Charging Points

This course is designed to equip qualified electricians with the necessary skills and knowledge to install, verify, and commission electric vehicle (EV) charging points. It covers the specific requirements and safety standards for EV charging equipment, as outlined in the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation and the latest BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.

Who is the course for?

Those who wish to further their career in the electrotechnical sector, electricians who wish to gain an understanding of the requirements for electric vehicle charging equipment installations, and who are already conversant in inspection and testing and the wiring regulations.

Course Aims

The qualification covers the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation.

How long is the course?

This 2-day classroom based electrical training course is to ensure that you are conversant and gain familiarity with the layout, content and application of IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation.

How will it be assessed?

You will be assessed against this qualification by one 25 question on-screen multiple choice exam of 50 minutes duration. This is an open book assessment, and learners are permitted the use of the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation.

Progression Route

  • EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
  • EAL Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification
  • EAL Qualifications in environmental technology systems
  • EAL Level 3 Award In the In-Service Inspections and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT)
  • EAL Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations
  • EAL qualifications in inspection and testing

Entry Requirements

Learners must be conversant with the relevant wiring regulations, and initial verification and commissioning. This can be demonstrated by the learner holding relevant qualifications in BS 7671, and inspection and testing.

IMPORTANT ENTRY REQUIREMENT UPDATE FOR REGISTRATIONS FROM THE 01/09/23:  

To take this qualification learners must be competent electricians and hold one of the qualifications listed below, with the relevant AM test; (e.g. AM2/S/E/D). 

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification
  • Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker
  • Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services – Electrical Installation (Building and Structures)
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings
  • EAL Building Services Engineering (Level 3) – Electrotechnical Installation
  • Equivalent historical qualifications. See EAS Table 4B/4C, and the EAS Qualifications Guide 

Or they hold an ECS Gold Card, as a JIB Electrician, or Approved Electrician.

Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to complete the learning outcomes and assessments.

Learners must be at least 18 years old.

You will be provided with a section to upload these documents upon completing the payments section of your booking form.

All documents must be uploaded at least 3 days before the course begins. Failure to do so may result in you not being allowed to attend the training sessions.
