The transition window for the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) 2026 update is entering its final stretch. From 1 October 2026, the grace period ends, and stricter competence standards will be enforced across all Competent Person Schemes, including NICEIC and NAPIT.
If your electrical business carries out periodic inspection, testing, and condition reporting (EICRs), ensuring your operatives hold the required qualifications is essential.
What Changes on 1 October?
Under the updated EAS requirements, contracting firms can no longer rely solely on a single Qualified Supervisor (QS) to validate inspection and testing activities carried out by unqualified staff.
Every operative undertaking periodic inspection and testing must demonstrate individual competence by holding:
- An industry-recognised Level 3 Periodic Inspection & Testing qualification (such as City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent).
- Documented evidence of relevant practical experience in inspection and testing.
- Valid CPD records demonstrating ongoing technical competence.
Failing to meet these criteria before your next scheme audit could lead to suspension of your scope for periodic inspection and testing, preventing you from certifying condition reports.
